Studio Commission FAQs
What materials do you use for the artwork?
All materials used to create your painting are professional grade and archival quality, meant to preserve your artwork for generations. All commissioned paintings are created on gallery wrapped cotton canvas, painted with Utrecht and Golden artist acrylics (Acrylic option), or Winsor & Newton artist oils (Oil option). All paintings are then sealed with a matte varnish.
What if I want a canvas size that is not listed in your price chart?
Custom canvas sizes are available if you have a vision for your painting that goes beyond my listed package options. You may request a canvas slightly smaller than my smallest listed size (12x16"), larger than 30x40", or an odd size somewhere in between. Tell me what you have in mind and I can use my existing packages as a baseline to give you a custom quote.
How long will it take for you to complete my commission?
Completion time will be dependent on my work schedule and the size/complexity of your canvas. I will be able to give you a more accurate estimate at the time that you place your order, though this is subject to change based on my fluctuating schedule. If you have a deadline that you need me to meet, please let me know about it in our initial consultation and I will do my best to accommodate your request. Generally the goal for turnaround time is 2-6 weeks, or 6-8 weeks for custom canvas sizes that are larger than my base packages.
Who pays for the shipping of the finished painting?
Packaging and shipping costs within the continental US (+state and county taxes) are included with each commission base price. If the painting is local, arrangements can be made for local pickup.
Will I get progress updates while you work on my painting?
If you wish to view the progress of your painting as I work on it in the studio, I will send you photo updates upon request only. You will be allowed to submit up to three (3) comments/ critiques for small changes or alterations within the painting during this process (this will be outlined in your signed contract). Additional requests for changes to the painting can be added for a fee per request. I will send you a photo of the finished painting to confirm that you are happy with the outcome before varnishing and preparing for delivery.
How do I send my photo references to you?
All photos/reference materials that you wish for me to use for your painting must be emailed to me in digital format. If you only have the photos as physical prints, you will need to have them scanned and then emailed to me. I can not accept your printed photographs in the mail. All photo references must be sent in the highest possible visual quality- to achieve this, always use a scanner rather than using your phone to take a picture of the printed photo.
Do you retain copyright of the image of my painting?
I will retain copyright of all digital images containing your finished painting, including the right to show the piece in my portfolio, website, exhibits, competitions, etc. You may request to remain anonymous when images of the painting are shared on my social media business pages and website, if you wish. There will be a section for privacy preferences outlined in my contract to address this. You are permitted to share images of your finished painting for personal and non-commercial use, including: photos on your social media pages and profiles, and reproduction for an office or other personal/public space. Please kindly provide attribution to Big Day Paintings by Ashley Hayunga each time you share the image of your finished painting for personal use.
Can I get a printed copy of my painting made?
Yes! I take professional photos of every finished painting, and these can be used to order canvas or paper prints if desired. You may request this extra service any time after your painting is complete.
Do you do framing?
All commissioned paintings are created on a gallery wrapped canvas that do not require framing. The edges will be painted for a clean presentation while hanging, and the surface will be sealed with varnish for a protective finish. You may choose to have your painting framed after you have received it, but it will arrive to you ready to hang as-is after leaving my studio.
My commission is a gift for someone. Will you ship the finished painting directly to that person when it is finished?
Its so nice that you have commissioned my artwork as a gift, that is so thoughtful! However, when the painting is complete and ready to ship, I am not able to deliver it to a third party. It must go directly to the address of the client/commissioner- this is to ensure that you can track the package with the provided tracking number, confirm that it has been received on time and in good condition, and view the painting in person if you wish before gifting it to your intended person.
What if the painting is damaged or lost during the shipping process?
All packages will be shipped via USPS, and include some insurance when being sent to you with standard shipping. Insurance coverage for the full value of the package will cost extra, and will require me to get an exact insurance quote from the post office for you. It is up to you if you want your painting to be fully insured in case of loss or damage, in which case you would submit one final payment to me to cover the cost. I highly recommend choosing this option to protect your investment, as Big Day Paintings by Ashley Hayunga will not be responsible for any losses or damage to your painting after it leaves my studio.
